Am I a sex addict?

AS I have said before, if you have to be addicted to something sex seems to me to be the best! Apparently psych types debate whether true sex addiction exists. Let me describe my symptoms and you tell me...

The food fiends I know often plan their next meal, while they are eating the current one. They also talk a lot about food and plan vacations and trips around special food events and restaurants.

I am like that about sex. If there is no one else willing to play I will masturbate once or twice a day. sometimes I will even masturbate in the morning even if I think it is possible I may have interpersonal sex later that day. The most times I have orgasmed within a 24 hour period is six times...

I love sex for hours. In a perfect world my mate and I would have sex in the morning, and at night with an occasional nooner thrown in for special occasions. I would have sex even if sore, and even if it brought on a urinary infection (which it has a few times!)

Well I could go on, but you get the idea...

I am not an addictive type though. I can live without sex, I just would rather not.

For example I have lots of wine bottles I have purchased and rarely have more than one bottle a day, and that is shared with a friend. So I do not go crazy, at least not too badly...

Wasn't there a good special on this subject on HBO a few weeks ago?

You are right about the psych community disupting whether it a real addiction because as far as I know, the DSM-IV does not list criteria for the diagnosis of sex addiction.

Your habits do not sound as though it is pathological. It doesn't seem to interfere with your daily life does it? You're not masturbating to the point of self harm or using all your money on prostitutes or pornography. You don't seem preoccupied with sex or even all that compulsive. You just have a very active sex life. As long as you're keeping it healthy, I wouldn't worry about it much unless it starts interfering with things like work and other aspects of your life.

Its the work and other activities that interfere with my sex life that I am worrying about...
